Another science discovery!
Did you know that sugar dissolves faster in hot water than in cold water?
Read to find out because we did this experiment!
Procedure (This is what we did):
- We took equal amounts of hot and cold water in the two cups.
- We added 2 teaspoons of brown sugar in each cup.
- We stirred the mixture until we could see no more sugar in the water.
Results(What did we see and discover?)
The sugar was gone completely after 12 stirs only in the hot water but in the cold water it took 19 stirs. The colour of the sugar solution in both cups changed to light brown (similar to the colour of the brown sugar). We tasted the new liquid mixture in the cup and it was sweet just like the sugar.
Conclusion (What did we learn?)
- Water is a liquid and so has gaps in between it's particles. The sugar grains went and filled these gaps and mixed completely when stirred.
